Question
Answer

How fast is the internet connection? Connection speeds can be up to four times as fast as ADSL and Cable services currently offered in major cities. Our hi-speed wireless broadband internet service can be up to 144X faster than your current dial up connection.

Does your service use a satellite to connect to the internet No, Gulf Islands Wireless Networks is connected to a 100 megabit per second fiber link. This link will provide our subscribers with unsurpassed service and will not be subject to the lag (up to 5 seconds) typically found in satellite based systems.

Do I need line of sight in order to use your services? Yes, this is one of the key purposes of our Survey request form.
We are trying to minimize the "Holes" or shadows where our signal can't be received. Due to the topography of our wonderful islands, it is virtually impossible to cover every nook and cranny. But by letting us know where you are, we will make a concerted effort to get the service to you.

Do I require a phone line to use your service? Unlike the dial up services currently offered in the islands. Our high speed wireless broadband internet service does not require a telephone connection.See Below

How does your service work? Our fixed wireless broadband internet service works on the same principal as cordless phones. We install a small receiver / transmitter antenna on the outside of your building and a wireless card in your computer. This unit communicates with one of our main transmitters located in the islands.

Can I use my Cell Phone to connect to your service? No, our Fixed wireless internet system does not support cellular phones. In fact the only thing the Cellular phone systems and Fixed Wireless internet have in common is they use radio signals to provide connectivity.

I am concerned about the output power of Cellular sites, does your fixed wireless system emit these high power levels? No, not even close to these levels. A typical Cellular site will emit somewhere in the area of 40 watts. Our fixed wireless radios have an output power of 100 milliwatts. You receive more emitted power from your computer monitor and television along with other common household appliances.

Is the signal of your system continuous? No, the system only sends a signal when there is a request from a subscriber. This is similar in principal to answering your door when someone knocks on it.
